Scum & Destiny 3

What started out as a just something to rep against back in Nov of 2022 eventually turned into one of the sickest burn decks out there. This final version is the 4th version of the 3rd pairing choice, so it's been through some changes over time. The first version was Aphra/Babu Frik/Owen so you could search for XJ9 with Owen and then turn his die to the special with Babu Frik to bring back your battlefield. Next turn Owen would search for K-3P0, Babu Frik would flip his die to the resource and then you would blow him up for the battlefield ability. Babu Frik, the 6 copies of 8D8 that Aphra brought and K-3P0's inherent ability would keep him coming back time and time again. With the deck loaded with mitigation cards, it worked quite well, but then something truly tragic happened... the big man himself, Babu Frik, rotated out. It almost seemed like this decks days were numbered, but then Path Engines arrived on the scene. This mod, coupled with a Speratist Supply Ship, would bring K-3P0 back even more, but those are villain cards. Hmmm, what to do? Enter IG-11. Coupled with Owen, Igii (as we like to call him) could get those villain cards into the deck. All we needed was a splash of red to add Armored Reinforcements to the team to pull a Supply Ship right away and we should be good. The deck set up very quickly, but it just couldn't close like it did with the previous team. I wonder why? Oh, wait, previously each time K-3P0 came back it was for 3 damage with the Aphra ping, now it was only 2 damage. That changed things, so Aphra had to get back on the team, plus she would bring in extra 8D8 droids again. So this team was put together with the Aphra ping, being able to pull hero and villain cards (which I always love) and we even got the added burn (literally) with Losing the War. Add tricks like C-21 and his ping on ping action while Meebur Gascon guarantees he hits the special to play more copies of Self Destruct (on Mouse Droids, XJ9 once he's flipped the battlefield or even R5-D4 when he's about to blow up anyway) or Everybody profits for more sick burn. Plenty of shielding has been added for Aphra with Lavish Capes (overwriting each other and being brought back with 8D8s if you need to cycle cards), Riot Shields, Armor Plating and Den of Thieves (which, coupled with Rose's special, can stick around a while). Oh, and this wonky pairing mean Unique Perspectives all day, every day! Ultimately this deck has shut down all the top meta decks with an average record of 2 outta 3 in play testing and it went 4-1 at GenCon 23 (just like all the top 4 decks did) but due to extended strength of schedule it only came in 5th place. Things might have played out differenty, if only... It did however cause the reigning world champ at the time, LtNorm, to scoop his Spoons deck once this deck set up (turn 2 or 3 I think it was), so it's got those bragging rights. If this deck can set up quickly, there really is no stopping it. Mitigation means nothing when all the damage doesn't come from the dice or even out of hand. I do love a vicious cycle!

PS - If you didn't put it together yet, N.T.E. stands for Negative TANK Experience.
